Description

80 minutes of integration brought out some detail in this galaxy, taken under clear, moonless skies, from 32 mLY. My autoguider kept my fork mount tracking accurately with total RMS 1.28". I focused using a bahtinov mask prior to the exposure, and can't decide whether this drifted during the cold early hours of the morning, or whether I just need more integration time, or whether it is the nature of this galaxy not to give up too much detail. I used a broadband Lumicon light pollution filter, and would like to try this with my narrow band filter to see if I can capture the HII regions that speckle this delicate spiral.

Description: Apart from an annoying artefact in the bright stars, I think this higher resolution image HDR processed in Penumbra v0.6 shows off the flocculation in this spiral quite well. I will try using Startools to mask out the bright stars to avoid artefacts in over exposed areas.
